Homeschooling in CT

In Connecticut, homeschooling is allowed if you can show that your child is receiving “equivalent instruction” in the studies taught in the public schools.

Parent should submit Letter of Intent letter within 10 days of the start of home schooling to the town superintendent of schools. The parent should also do an Annual Portfolio Review with the school. Both are very easy and can be done in few minutes.

Homeschooling program must include instruction in the following subjects:
- English (reading, writing, spelling and grammar)
- Geography
- Arithmetic
- United States history
- Citizenship (including a study of the town, state, and federal governments)

Standardized testing is not required by statute or regulation.
